Podcast Editing

Step-by-step guide on editing a podcast using Descript. This tool streamlines the editing process with features that enhance audio quality and overall podcast production. Below is a detailed guide to ensure a smooth editing experience. Tools Needed: * Descript (web version or app version) * Google Drive (for file management) * Canva (for creating thumbnails) * Vimeo (for hosting and sharing the podcast) Step-by-Step Guide: 1. Accessing Descript:  a. Go to Descript and download the application to your computer if not already installed.  b. Sign in using our login credentials. 2. Importing the Podcast File:  a. Locate the file uploaded by AJ for editing.  b. In Descript, navigate to the right side and click on "Projects," then the three dots (...), and select "Create a Sequence." 3. Creating a Sequence:  a. Creating a sequence is crucial as it consolidates the Ecamm Live recording and the three microphone audios into a cohesive unit.  b. Click on "Add File" and ensure to add the Ecamm Live recording or video version first.  c. Click on "New Track" and add tracks for the main mic, Guest 1, and Guest 2.  d. After adding all necessary files, return to the Ecamm Live recording (or video version) and mute its audio track.  e. Click "Done" to finalize the sequence setup. 4. Transcribing the Audio:  a. Wait a few minutes while the audio file is transcribed automatically.  b. On the right side of your screen, click on the "Underlord" icon.  c. Enable "Studio Sound" toggle for enhanced audio quality.  d. Click on "Remove Filler Words" to eliminate unnecessary pauses and fillers. e. Optionally, consider manually adjusting word gaps for more precise editing. 5. Editing the Podcast:  a. Begin editing directly within the script. However, for accuracy, also utilize the timeline below.  b. Adjust word placement to shorten awkward pauses and remove unwanted sections.  c. Editing directly in the timeline provides the most accurate control over the podcast's flow and content. 6. Inserting Intro and Outro:  a. Click on the three lines icon (Quick Actions) at the top right.  b. Select "Insert" and add a scene at the beginning to insert the podcast introduction from the shared Google Drive folder or Descript's built-in resources.  c. Move to the end of the podcast and insert an audio file saying "Thank you for listening….," serving as a short outro.  d. Place this outro where the interviewers and interviewee bid farewell before the video fades out. 7. Publishing and Downloading the Podcast:  a. Review the edited podcast to ensure quality and content alignment.  b. Click on "Publish" once satisfied with the final version.  c. Download the edited podcast file to your computer. 8. Uploading to Vimeo and Creating a Thumbnail Using Canva:  a. Log in to your Vimeo account and upload the podcast file.  b. While the upload is in progress, open Canva and create a thumbnail image for the podcast.  c. Use Canva’s tools to design an engaging thumbnail that represents the podcast content effectively.  d. Download the thumbnail from Canva once it’s ready. e. After the podcast upload is complete, add the downloaded thumbnail to Vimeo to accompany the podcast.
